IEEE Station Conformance Benchmark Test Suite

The Azimuth IEEE Station Conformance Benchmark Test Suite is an automated script that performs the University of New Hampshire Interoperability Lab (UNH-IOL) MAC Conformance test plans on a wide range of frequency channels in 802.11 a, b, or g modes. The script scrutinizes the content and sequence of packets sent by the Station Under Test (STAUT) to ensure that it will be able to interoperate with 802.11 products from multiple manufacturers.

The IEEE Station Conformance Benchmark Test Suite enables users to:

  • Reduce the client station testing process from days to hours
  • Bring higher quality Wi-Fi client station products to market faster through sophisticated
  • mobility and traffic emulation
  • Ensure accurate, repeatable test results

The IEEE Station Conformance Benchmark Test Suite tests include the following:

  • MAC Frame Formatting – verifies the processing of malformed frames by the DUT by analyzing the response and integrity of the STAUT
  • Deauthentication Processing – verifies that the STAUT can properly process deauthentication frames
  • Null Data Reception – determines the STAUT's ability to receive packets of type data and subtype Null Data
  • STA Association Procedure – verifies that the STAUT can transmit association request packets and correctly receive non-successful association status code values
  • WEP Decryption – determines that the STAUT can properly decrypt encrypted packets and not process packets with invalid Integrity Check Values (ICVs)
  • ERP IE Reception – verifies that the STAUT will invoke the use of protection mechanisms following reception of the Use_Protection bit
  • MAC Level Acknowledgment – determines whether the STAUT properly transmits ACK frames
  • Duplicate Detection and Recovery – verifies that the STAUT correctly handles duplicate frames and uses the right sequence numbers in its own transmissions
  • RTS/CTS Procedure – determines whether the STAUT properly exchanges Ready to Send/Clear to Send (RTS/CTS) frames when packets exceed the RTS/CTS threshold
  • CTS to Self Recognition – verifies that the DUT can properly delay non-ACK frame transmissions for the specified time period in a CTS-to-self frame
  • Fragmentation Procedure – determines that the STAUT correctly uses the fragmentation procedure to transmit unicast and multicast MAC Service Data Units (MSDUs)
  • Defragmentation – verifies that the STAUT correctly receives fragments of any size and discards duplicates
  • Multirate Support – determines whether the STAUT only transmits frames in the Basic Service Set (BSS) Basic Rate Set or at a rate supported by the Test Station (TS)

The suite leverages the W-Series platform’s sophisticated motion emulation and traffic generation capability in a completely isolated environment to ensure accurate, repeatable results. All tests are managed by Azimuth's DIRECTOR™ Test Executive software, and results can be easily shared using Azimuth's STUDIO™ Test Data Management software.
